Dear Senator Capper:
I was informed officially March 8 that I had been promoted to Captain. I knew from your letter of Feb. 28 that it was a certainty, but I thought it best to wait until I had been officially notified before writing to you. I feel that your interest and subsequent request for a review of the case was directly responsible for the favorable action taken on the matter. My morale was boosted 100 per cent when informed that from now on I would be addressed as Captain Dole. I realize that I'll probably never have an opportunity to return the kindness you've demonstrated, but I do want you to know that I appreciated it very deeply.
I plan to return to the University of Kansas after separation. Being only 23 and improving physically, slowly but surely, I'm sure that I'll be able to find something to do that will be both useful and creative. I had completed two years prior to entering the service so it shouldn't be too difficult even though I'll be physically handicapped.
Thanking you again for your cooperation I remain,
Sincerely yours
