Dear Burt:
I am writing to express my appreciation to the Resource Center for honoring me with the Independent Living Legislative Award. While I am honored to be a recipient of your wonderful award, the recent enactment of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) is an award in itself. Thank you not only for your award, but also for your continued support.
Of course, bi-partisan support in Congress as well as the cooperative efforts of people with disabilities, business leaders, and concerned American citizens made this historic legislation possible. As a result, this law will prevent discrimination in employment, public accommodations, transportation, and telecommunications. Most importantly, skilled qualified individuals, regardless of a disability will become productive, contributing members of society. My peers with disabilities will now hopefully have the opportunity to live lives of dignity and self support.
Once again, thank you for bestowing upon me your Legislative Award. Although so many people worked long and hard on the ADA, I am very appreciative of the recognition of my efforts.
Sincerely,
