** FLAG DAY STATEMENT **

213 YEARS AGO TODAY THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS ADOPTED THE STARS AND STRIPES AS THE OFFICIAL FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES. FRESH FROM A REVOLUTION THAT ESTABLISHED THE GREATEST DEMOCRACY EVER KNOWN TO MAN, THE FOUNDING FATHERS MADE A DECISION ON THAT JUNE DAY IN 1777 THAT NOW RALLIES AMERICA TO A NEW CAUSE.
AFTER 213 YEARS, IT IS TIME TO GIVE OUR FLAG THE PROTECTION IT DESERVES. THE PROTECTION OUR FOUNDING FATHERS WOULD HAVE EXPECTED, AND THE KIND OF PROTECTION THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE DEMANDING.
AND AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, WE HAVE LEARNED ONE RED, WHITE AND BLUE LESSON: ONLY THE CONSTITUTION IS EQUAL TO THE AWESOME TASK OF SAVING OUR NATIONAL SYMBOL...AMERICA'S PRIDE AND JOY.
I AM HONORED TO STAND HERE TODAY -- ON FLAG DAY -- TO PUBLICY EXPRESS OUR SUPPORT FOR A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO SAVE OUR FLAG. I AM HONORED TO BE AMONG REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS, AND VETERAN GROUPS REPRESENTING MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WHO HAVE SACRIFICED SO MUCH TO PRESERVE, PROTECT AND DEFEND OLD GLORY, WHO ALL AGREE IT'S TIME FOR A VERY SPECIAL FLAG DAY.
THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT IT, AND QUITE FRANKLY THEY'RE PUZZLED, THEY'RE FURIOUS AS TO WHAT THE BIG HOLD UP IS IN THE HALLS OF CONGRESS. LET'S HONOR OUR FLAG AND GET IT DONE, ON THIS VERY SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY FOR THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
