Dear Friends.
We welcome you, one and all, to the Third Annual Winter Olympics. We especially welcome all the participants and urge you to do your best. Remember, it is not the winning of an event that is so important but the effort you put forth and the way you play the game.

We are particularly appreciative of the dedication and stamina of the coaches and sponsors. Without your efforts these events would not be possible.

We also want to thank the committees who worked long and hard in putting today's program together as well as the ARC units who helped make this a very important day for the participants. It takes team work to get the job done.

Good luck to you, the participants, in the Winter Olympics!

Sincerely,

Dear Friends:
Welcome to the Third Annual Kansas Special Olympic Winter Games!

You can be proud of being part of the largest Winter Games ever. There will be close to 1,000 athletes in Salina this year competing in bowling, skating and volleyball competitions. Many will learn new floor hockey skills.

I hope that all the Special Olympians in attendance will join me in a salute to the many people who have worked long and hard to make this event a reality. Our hats are off to them.

Remember...
Let me win,
But if I cannot win,
Let me be brave in the attempt.

Good luck!

Dear Winter Olympians, Coaches, Chaperones and Friends:

Hi -- welcome to Salina, home of the green and white Salina Celtics. As Host City Chairman, I would like to take this opportunity to wish each of you the best of luck in the bowling, skating and volleyball competition. Remember these two days are for you; enjoy yourself and remember the true winner is the person who can smile and hold their head high even though they may not win a medal.

This year marks the third year for the Kansas Winter Special Olympics. The Olympics have grown from 500 participants to over 900 participants in this short period of time. This growth is symbolic of the many hours volunteers have spent to make the Olympics an event you will never forget. So when you compete in the Olympic events try your best and you will be saying thank you to the many friends that make this event possible.

Good Luck and have fun,

P.S. Hey Olympians, during the next two days take time to thank your coaches and chaperones for making this weekend possible, for without their dedication the chance for you to compete would never happen.
