Dear {redacted}:
Thanks for your recent letter concerning the use of Ellis Island in New York. Appreciate hearing your views on the subject and am quite pleased that you are taking an active interest in the affairs of the country at such an early age.

Ellis Island is already authorized as part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument so private use is not currently allowed. The National Park Service has received an appropriation of $1.5 million to renovate the immigration buildings and make them suitable for some sort of public use. Work will begin as soon as those priorities are determined.

Agree that renovation is a good Bicentennial project and feel confident that work on the island will begin in the near future. Glad to have your views on this subject. Please let me know if I may be of assistance to you.

Sincerely yours,

BOB DOLE

Dear Sir:

Dear Senator Dole, I would like to talk about Ellis Island. The eighth grade classes is doing this as a class project.

I would like for you to restore Ellis Island as a Bicentennial project, because many of our ancestors stayed there.

I think that if the government would restore this place it would be a worth while project. Thank you.

Sincerely yours,
