Dear Senator Dole,
My name is Tom Murry; just recently I was selected to be the Business Manager for the Pittsburg Bicentennial Centennial Committee. As you know our Nation celebrates its 200th anniversary in 1976, and because Pittsburg will be 100 years old we intend to have a double celebration. I sent you this letter because I felt it was important that you be aware that we have established a committee to plan and promote our heritage in 1976. It was suggested also, that we send you a copy of the application form for becoming bicentennial Community. Mr. Edward T. McNally is the Chairman for the committee and I am sure his presence will be instrumental towards our projects. If, in any way, you can be of assistance to us, we very much welcome that assistance.
Sincerely, Tom Murry

Bicentennial Community Application - ATTACHMENT A
Pittsburg, Kansas (Name of Community)
In listing these activities on this form, we understand that the inclusion of at least one activity for each of the three thematic areas (Heritage '76: Festival USA: Horizons '76) is highly desired by the national ARBC because it increases awareness of the full scope of the Nation's Bicentennial program: "A past to remember: a future to mold" We know, however, that this is not an essential requirement. We acknowledge that the ARBC expects complete themat- ic coverage, not necessarily in the beginning, but at least during the full development and expansion of our Bicen- terinial Community program.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
THEMATIC COVERAGE
Horizons
This would tie in with our Festivals Comm. We hope to refurbish or construct a new museum that would compliment both our future and our past.
Heritage
A collection of all Per- tinent materials concerning our past and our Nation's past has just begun. It is hoped that we might publish a book of some sort as a lasting reminder to the great people who built our nation and our town.
Festival
It is our hopes to construct either an old train station or perhaps an old mining town. Whatever we decide upon will be directly related to the amount of money we raise and to the feasibility of such a venture. We intend certain community involvement, for example, parade, Fourth of July Celebration (circuses,
carnivals, etc).
