Dear Bill
The new Republican class of United States Senators has been sworn in. Would you not count it a congenial evening if you invited all the freshman senators and their wives to an evening in February or early March of cocktails, buffet dinner and the screening of a brand new movie at the MPAA theater?
70 Helen Cameron
Each two years for the last twenty years, it has been my delight to offer this evening to the Republican Senate Leadership. The Leaders and the new Senators have always found it a warm, relaxing and enjoyable evening. This is especially true of the spouses: It gives them a chance to meet other Senators and their spouses, in a private, small, and intimate setting - without the distractions of press, constituents, or those with causes to advocate. And with a good movie to boot!
X Perhaps you would also choose to invite others in the Leadership as well as key Committee chairmen. That is entirely within your ken.
At any rate, Bob, I hope you would find this attractive, - as the other evenings in past years have proven to be.
If you like this idea, perhaps someone in your office could call me so we could fasten on dates that are agreeable to you.
I will wait to hear from you. I know you will find this evening an uncommonly pleasant one.
Sincerely,
and [illegible]
(signature)
The Honorable Robert Dole
