FEBRUARY 18, 1987
TO: SENATOR
FROM: DALE
SUBJECT: BOBBI HORNIG VISIT
(handwritten, illegible)
Bobbi Hornig called from Israel last week to ask my, our, help in setting up meetings with members so she could press her and her husband's (Morris Draper) case for restoring the Consul's residence in Jerusalem. As part of the continuing resolution last year we passed a Helms amendment that prohibits funds for renovating U.S. facilities in Israel unless they are within 5 miles of the Knesset.
The building is in such bad shape that they are going to have to move out very soon. It is an historic building, hundreds of years old. The mayor of Jerusalem, Teddy Kollek, very much supports efforts to save the building, and is willing to make calls to members to back the effort.
She will be in town from March 2-March 13. She wants to speak to you, (parenthesis and numbers handwritten, numbers are written above the proceding names) (Senator Helms, 6342) Rudman 3324, Kastens 5323, Cohen 2523, Biden 5042 and Moynihan. She asked if we could set up a meeting -- a coffee, or something, to get them all together.
Would you be willing to do this?
Or would you rather just talk to her one-on-one?
