CAMPAIGN AMERICA
THE 100TH CONGRESS

(page 2)
A Campaign for the 100th Congress of the United States

More than simply another election
There have been elections in America's history which have fundamentally altered the course and direction of politics. These are watershed elections which give rise to a new generation of leaders and policies.
President Reagan's election in 1980 was one such election. It symbolized a turning point in the course of events, when leadership was needed to restore the spirit and change the direction of this country. Today, America is again strong both at home and abroad, and recovering from a period of neglect and misplaced priorities.
A Republican Senate was also voted into office in that same election, and is greatly responsible for putting the legislative muscle into the initiatives and purpose of the Republican Administration. In the two elections since then, the mandate of conservative principles has been tested, and twice the Senate has remained in Republican hands. A Republican Senate majority and a more Republican House are essential if America is to remain on its present course of sound legislative initiatives based on fundamental conservative policies.
There will be another such watershed election in 1986 - the election of the 100th Congress of the United States. The balance of that Congress will decide whether or not the "Reagan Revolution" will be carried into the next decade. 22 Republican Senators and 182 Representatives are up for reelection. Vacancies continue to grow. Senate seats once believed to be strongly Republican are no longer so because of radical changes in population. Public opinion polls show the President to be popular and enjoying the support of a majority of Americans, but rarely does this popularity transfer directly to candidates during off-year elections.
In short, every effort must be made to support the incumbent and targeted challengers in their bids for the Senate and House. That is the purpose of Campaign America - to maintain a Republican Senate and build a more Republican Congress when the historic 100th Congress convenes in 1987.

The Challenge
For the past fifty years, the party in the White House during off-year elections has lost significant numbers of Congressional and Senate seats. History also teaches that those elections held during an administration's second-term have always resulted in a startling loss of Senate seats.
If Republicans are to break this historic trend, then every effort must be made to fully fund and support as many candidates as possible. Because Republicans have almost twice as many seats up for election, the odds of maintaining a Senate majority become increasingly difficult.

A Commitment to Help
Senator Bob Dole is Senate Majority Leader and Honorary Chairman of Campaign America. Through his leadership, Campaign America will provide the kind of campaign assistance that will keep races competitive and winnable. In addition to direct candidate assistance, Campaign America will be a major part of the Republican Party effort to provide technical services, media and advertising and voter program development to local and state party organizations.
The major programs of Campaign America: The 100th Congress are:
Incumbent support
The 100th Congress Steering Committee will consist of 100 individuals who will work with Senator Dole personally to help incumbent Senators win their campaigns.
Issues and policy alerts
Issue and policy alerts will be made available to keep candidates aware of important developments in Washington. Campaign America will provide experts in the fields of defense, agriculture, education, economics, foreign affairs other important areas for issue and strategy development.
In addition to his commitment to provide the essential financial support through Campaign America, Senator Dole will campaign on behalf of candidates and party organizations and host fundraising events throughout 1986.

Campaign America: The 100th Congress How You Can Help
Campaign America will help give the candidate the competitive edge by providing the funds and services they desperately need.
You can help the candidates by helping Campaign America reach its fundraising goal. Your maximum contribution of $5,000 will qualify you to be a member of the 100th Congress Steering Committee and help provide valuable resources to incumbent Senate campaigns.
You may do more for the Republican Party, and you should. But you can do nothing more important for the future of America than helping Senator Bob Dole maintain the Republican Majority in the United States Senate.
Campaign America is the campaign to make the 100th Congress Republican.
