Room 231-C

Dear Ms. Brotman:

I am delighted that Senator Dole and Senator Byrd are considering to select our agency to be the recipient of non-perishable foods or food certificates.

The Department of Human Services, Commission on Social Services provides casework services for children who have been neglected, homeless or abandoned, or are in danger of becoming delinquent. We also provide casework services for families and senior citizens.

Although some of our families are receiving Public Assistance Grants, there are many who are employed, but only receive limited incomes. Because of the economic crisis, we are receiving many requests for services from those persons who are unemployed and need help with food for themselves and their families. Food is needed when the senior senior citizens checks are stolen or misplaced; clients need food while waiting for their public assistance applications to be processed; and many of the families are having emergencies occurring and their incomes cannot be stretched to meet their food allowances.

Our caseworkers make home visits and frequently learn that children cannot attend school because they are not adequately clothed and/or are hungry.

Records are maintained in our office regarding the distribution of all non-perishable foods and food certificates. The records contain the client's name, address and number of persons in the family. The caseworker or client must sign when they receive the donation. You, most assuredly, can look at our records at anytime so that you can be knowledgeable as to who receives your contribution.

DHS-107

We've asked any interested Senator to bring non-perishable foods or food certificates. We have already gone out and bought $20.00 worth of non-perishable food from Senator and Mrs. Dole. We have also suggested that they not spend more than $20.00.

GOVERNMENT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20002

December 10, 1985

IN REPLY REFER TO:
Volunteer Services Office
500 First Street, N.W.
Room 5190
724-8572

Ms. Judy Brotman
Office of Senator Robert Dole
Hart Building
Room 231-C
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Ms.

GOVERNMENT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20002

December 10, 1985

IN REPLY REFER TO:
Volunteer Services Office
500 First Street, N.W.
Room 5190
724-8572

DHS-107

We've asked any interested Senator to bring non-perishable foods or food certificates. We have already gone out and bought $20.00 worth of non-perishable food from Senator and Mrs. Dole. We have also suggested that they not spend more than $20.00.

GOVERNMENT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20002

December 10, 1985

IN REPLY REFER TO:
Volunteer Services Office
500 First Street, N.W.
Room 5190
724-8572

Ms. Judy Brotman
Office of Senator Robert Dole
Hart Building
Room 231-C
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Ms.

We've asked any interested Senator to bring non-perishable foods or food certificates. We have already gone out and bought $20.00 worth of non-perishable food from Senator and Mrs. Dole. We have also suggested that they not spend more than $20.00.
