ROBERT F. DEE
Chairman
November 15, 1985
The Honorable Robert Dole
Majority Leader
United States Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Bob:
Many thanks for taking time out of your busy day to meet with me last Wednesday.
Although time did not permit a detailed discussion of the deficit issue, the NAM stands solidly behind your efforts to compel Congressional action on public enemy number one -- Federal red ink. Indeed, your thoughts on putting social security back on the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings table is one of the most meaningful suggestions I've heard. We'll solve this deficit spending problem only when we get control of entitlement programs -- and this is an important step in the right direction.
(paragraph in brackets, Joyce handwritten next to it.) Under separate cover Sandy Trowbridge has followed up on our discussion of having the NAM leadership spend some time with the Senate Republican leadership. I look forward to that session, and the opportunity to contribute our resources and backing in support of your work to reduce the Federal deficit.

Honorable Robert Dole
United States Senate
141 Hart Senate Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Bob:
Following up on your conversation this morning with NAM's Chairman Robert Dee, in which you suggested a meeting of the Republican Senate leadership with a leadership group from the NAM, I have discussed the logistics of this with Betty Meyer.
Our NAM Executive Committee will be meeting in Washington on Thursday, December 5th from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. It would be possible to meet at our office at 1776 F Street N.W., or we could bring the group to Capitol Hill.
I would think it easier for you and your colleagues if our group comes to Capitol Hill, and suggest doing so either for an informal luncheon between 12:00-2:00 p.m., or an afternoon session between 4:30-5:30 p.m. We would, of course, be pleased to host the luncheon if you can arrange the location, etc.
(handwritten, to the right of the paragraph) ?
A list of our Executive Committee members is enclosed. I would expect about 16 to 18 members to attend.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed with this gathering.
Sincerely,
(signature) Sandy

Sincerely,
