Dear Colleague:
As you perhaps noted in a recent article in the NEW YORK TIMES, Senator John Stennis, our distinguished colleague and one of the most respected legislators ever to serve in the Senate, will soon reach a landmark in his Senate service.
On November 25, Senator Stennis will have served in the United States Senate for 38 years and 10 days, becoming second only in length of service to the late Senator Carl Hayden of Arizona who served for more than 41 years.
Senator Byrd and I are therefore hosting a reception in Senator Stennis's honor -- on November 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., in Room S-207 of the Capitol. We very much hope you will join us to pay tribute to Senator Stennis at this time.
