99th Congress
1st Session

Senate Resolution 246

In the Senate of the United States
October 28, 1985

Whereas, on the night of October 27, 1985, the Kansas City Royals climaxed one of the great chapters in Major League Baseball annals with a World Championship;
Whereas, the Kansas City Royals captured the hearts of baseball fans all across the country with its tenacious comebacks in both the American League Playoffs and the World Series;
Whereas, the Royals made history by becoming the only team to lose the first two games of a World Series in its home park but then to fight back and win it all;
Whereas, the so-called experts gave the Royals almost no chance of winning anything in postseason play;
Whereas, the Kansas City Royals defeated an outstanding Saint Louis Cardinals team in the World Series and a great Toronto Blue Jays squad in the playoffs;
Whereas, after 16 years of loyalty, Kansas City Royals fans in Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, South Dakota, Missouri, and all over this great Nation have been rewarded with a much- deserved world title;
Whereas, Manager Dick Howser and his team have demonstrated they are indeed the right stuff; and
Whereas, after an 11-0 seventh game victory last night, the Royals -- and Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri -- -are on top of the baseball world: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Senate recognizes and applauds the accomplishments of the Kansas City Royals, 1985 Baseball Champions.

1st Session

Senate Resolution 246

In the Senate of the United States
October 28, 1985

Whereas, on the night of October 27, 1985, the Kansas City Royals climaxed one of the great chapters in Major League Baseball annals with a World Championship;
Whereas, the Kansas City Royals captured the hearts of baseball fans all across the country with its tenacious comebacks in both the American League Playoffs and the World Series;
Whereas, the Royals made history by becoming the only team to lose the first two games of a World Series in its home park but then to fight back and win it all;
Whereas, the so-called experts gave the Royals almost no chance of winning anything in postseason play;
Whereas, the Kansas City Royals defeated an outstanding Saint Louis Cardinals team in the World Series and a great Toronto Blue Jays squad in the playoffs;
Whereas, after 16 years of loyalty, Kansas City Royals fans in Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, South Dakota, Missouri, and all over this great Nation have been rewarded with a much- deserved world title;

Attest:

THOMAS F. EAGLETON

Senate Resolution 246

In the Senate of the United States
October 28, 1985

Whereas, on the night of October 27, 1985, the Kansas City Royals climaxed one of the great chapters in Major League Baseball annals with a World Championship;
Whereas, the Kansas City Royals captured the hearts of baseball fans all across the country with its tenacious comebacks in both the American League Playoffs and the World Series;
Whereas, the Royals made history by becoming the only team to lose the first two games of a World Series in its home park but then to fight back and win it all;
Whereas, the so-called experts gave the Royals almost no chance of winning anything in postseason play;
Whereas, the Kansas City Royals defeated an outstanding Saint Louis Cardinals team in the World Series and a great Toronto Blue Jays squad in the playoffs;
Whereas, after 16 years of loyalty, Kansas City Royals fans in Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, South Dakota, Missouri, and all over this great Nation have been rewarded with a much- deserved world title;

Attest:
