Dear Senator Dole:
I am a highschool student interested in the vote for people who are eighteen and over. Though women are very active in politics, I feel that they are not as responsible about making decisions as men are, so my letter concerns only men. If a man is old enough to fight in the war in Viet Nam, I feel that he is also responsible enough to vote capably, using good judgement. Most men also keep aware of politics and news in general if only to know how to vote in elections and/or support their candidate any way they can.
Women, on the other hand, usually are too caught up with work, school or the home to be particularly interested in current events, though many girls are very interested in politics. Therefore, I feel that the voting age for men should be lowered to eighteen, but that the voting age for women should remain at twenty-one.

This will acknowledge your letter of February 26 conveying your support for lowering the voting age from 21 to 18 for men - but not for women.
You will be interested in knowing I have long supported efforts to lower the voting age, and sponsored legislation as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives, over 15 years ago, to extend voting privileges those 18 and above in state elections.
To my mind, the valor of young people between 18 and 21 on the battlefield, their political involvement at home, and their deep concern for the complex problems of our times clearly indicate compelling reasons for them to be enabled to vote.
I support efforts in Congress to make the above possible and also favor similar proposals now before the Kansas Legislature. AS a co-sponsor of a Constitutional amendment providing that equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex, I believe women should also receive equal voting rights.
