Dear Senator Dole:

The National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia was highly gratified to read your remarks during the Senate debate on July 30 as published in the Congressional Record of that date.
We know that you were as keenly disappointed as we were in the limited news coverage which resulted, particularly inasmuch as so many of you who participated in the debate had expressed the hope that the news media would begin giving greater attention to the prisoner issue.
As you may know, the League of Families recently met with House Speaker John W. McCormack and the House majority and minority leaders to request their assistance in obtaining a Joint Meeting of the Congress devoted to the prisoner issue. We have sought and are continuing to seek similar appointments with the Senate leadership, and have sought to enlist the assistance of your office in this.
Your expression of support for a Joint Meeting would, no doubt, be extremely helpful at this time.
We are enclosing a

furnished to the House leadership on this matter.
The forum that would be provided by a Joint Meeting of the Congress undoubtedly would be the most significant forum we could ever hope to obtain in our efforts to bring to the attention of the American people and the world the plight of the imprisoned and missing men.
Again, may we express our sincere and heartfelt thanks for your efforts in our behalf. We would be most grateful for an expression of your views concerning the possibility of a Joint Meeting of the Congress focused on the POW/MIA issue.
