RE: UPDATE ON BILL DOLE
Bill seems to be doing well. I spoke to his Mom on December 19th. Bill visited her from October 19 through November 5. According to Dottie, it was the "best visit they had" in years. On earlier visits he often seemed depressed ("quiet")--but not this time. She feels Applewood has been better for him than any previous placement. It comforts her to know he is eating well and has a roof over his head. Bill tells her he wants to go back to Hays--she is not sure that would be a good idea.
I have also spoken with Bill several times over the past two months (most recently this week)
He has been chipper and chatty. He got his GED in September. (Bill did graduate from high school, of course. Dottie believes Bill feels he did not work hard enough in high school--that is why he worked for his high school equivalency as well.)
Bill spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at Applewood.(As I have written you, under Medicaid rules Bill is only allowed a three-week "vacation--and then either loses his bed or has to pay it out of his own pocket. He used this three weeks in October/November with his Mom.) He appreciated your check, and is planning to spend afternoons working with computers had the local community college. He wasn't too clear on the details--but it did not seem to be formal classes.
(Handwritten) Thank you
