Boycott Campaign
Put your money where your rights are. ..
Dollars and cents for women. . .
The Equal Rights Amendment is much more than a symbol. It is a bread-and-butter issue. It means dollars and cents for women.
Without the ERA, women will not have constitutional or economic equality in this century.
Without the ERA, women will continue to earn only 59¢ for every dollar earned by men.
The ERA Boycott of unratified states asks all groups, organizations and associations to refrain, until the ERA is ratified, from holding conventions, meetings, or conferences, in any of the 15 unratified states.
Over 400 national organizations representing a combined membership of over 50 million Americans have already decided not to hold future conventions, meetings, or conferences in states which have not ratified the Equal Rights Amendment. Joining the ERA Boycott Campaign sends a clear and unmistakable economic message: we intend to stop spending money in states where women are being denied equal rights.
The effectiveness of the ERA Convention and Meeting Boycott of unratified states was demonstrated in February 1978 when the State of Missouri filed suit against NOW claiming that the boycott violated the Sherman Antitrust Act.
In a strong decision issued in February 1979 the Federal District Court in Missouri ruled in NOW's favor, stating that the ERA Convention and Meeting Boycott is a legitimate political activity protected by the First Amendment.
This and other court battles will go on, but the fight for equal economic and constitutional rights is most important of all. There will be no easy victories ahead.
Your organization can become a part of the ERA Boycott Campaign. How? By presenting the enclosed sample resolution to your group's policy-making body for adoption and implementation. Remember that until the
Equal Rights Amendment is passed, we are all living in an unratified country. Join the National ERA Boycott Campaign and. . .
