Attached is a GS for your approval. Betty Meyer requested this note of congratulation on behalf of the son of a colleague, who is receiving the highest award of his local Lions Club for his volunteer service. This young man (age 30) has also been disabled since age 12. He developed Hodgkin's Disease, and although cured, developed a heart condition from treatment. He is currently on SSI.

(End of Letterhead)

Dear Rick,
Congratulations on receiving the Melvin Jones Award from the Hurricane Deck Lions Multiple District 26 for your volunteer service. In my view, there can be no higher honor than recognition by one's peers, and you should be very proud.

I also understand that you have had a disability since childhood. As you may know, I have a disability, too. So as someone who also knows disability from the inside out, I want to especially commend you. In the past, people with disabilities often have been the objects of volunteer efforts, rather than providers. But through your good works, you show how much people with disabilities can contribute as well.

Once again, I salute you. And please extend my very best wishes to the other members of the Hurricane Deck Lions.

Sincerely,
Bob Dole
