Sincerely, Elva Stutz Mrs. (Redacted) Salina, Kansas 67401 Delivered by (Redacted) 5-3-72 (in DC for a meeting) s-con_293_020_003_A1b.pdf Page 1 of 2 This document is from the collections at the Dole Archives, University of Kansas http://dolearchives.ku.edu Stamp: RECD MAY 3 1972 RESOLUTION WHEARAS, for more than eight years there have been United States servicemen missing and captured in the IndoChina conflict; and WHEREAS, there are now more than sixteen hundred (1600) American servicemen who are still either missing or captured in IndoChina; BE IT RESOLVED that the Republican National Party, in recognition of its responsibilities to all of these missing and captured American servicemen and their families at home who must wait from day-to-day with no assurance as to the fate or well-being of their loved ones, be urged to make as the first plank in its platform for the 1972 Presidential election, the following: There is no excuse for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and its allies to delay for one day its fulfillment of its responsibilities under the international humanitarian law to account fully for all Americans who are held in captivity and those who have not survived; to permit the impartial inspection of all prisoner of war facilities to verify the conditions of captivity and the treatment of the men; to repatriate immediately all seriously sick and wounded prisoners of war; to permit the proper exchange of mail and packages; and to guarantee the complete repatriation of all captured Americans without conditions no later than the cessation of all hostilities between the United States and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and its allies. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, inasmuch as our Republican administration, under the leadership of President Nixon, has designated the POW/MIA issue of the highest priority, that as testimony to the importance the welfare of these men holds for our Party, time be granted to one of those most closely concerned to address the Republican Convention in behalf of these 1600 American men being held captive in IndoChina in defiance of all rules of humanity and international law.
