SENATE LEADERS ANNOUNCE ETHICS STUDY COMMISSION
Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell and Republican Leader Bob Dole today announced the formation of a commission to study the Senate’s ethics procedure.
	“In our ongoing efforts to improve the operations of Congress, we have asked current and past members of the Ethics Committee to examine the existing mechanisms for ethical reviews,” said Mitchel and Dole in a joint statement.
	“There is an inherent difficulty in the current system of Senators judging their colleagues. The Commission will determine if there is a better way to approach this sensitive task.”
	The panel, which will be chaired by Richard Bryan of Nevada, will include Tom Daschle of South Dakota, Nancy Kassebaum of Kansas, Trent Lott of Mississippi, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, David Pryor of Arkansas, Terry Sanford of North Carolina, Bob Smith of New Hampshire, and Ted Slevone of Alaska.
	The Commission will report its recommendations to the Senate leaders by July 1, 1993
