Unfortunately, the only time all three were going to be in town simultaneously was the beginning of this week -- when you're in Kansas. Although Kaufman deals with Yeutter and Gramm often, the Senate GOP Leadership might offer insights in areas he's not as accustomed to dealing with since Kaufman is not a Hill person. Depends on your agenda. Do you want me to try again for the beginning of September with the Yeutter/Gramm group -- or go back to the original idea of hosting Kaufman with the Senate Leadership? You offered to host a meeting of the Republican Senate Leadership with Ron Kaufman. Ron has followed up and wondered when the best time for this would be. He'd like to discuss the 1992 Senate races and the fall gubernatorial elections. I've drafted a gold seal for your signature to Ron thanking him for his comments to recent Bush political appointees events (both Sheila Bair and Governor Hayden mentioned his comments to me) and asking him to check his schedule. For now, however, as you know I am still at the Department of Agriculture and have yet taken the opportunity to discuss with the President any sentiments he may have in this area.
