As the Republican Leader of the Senate, I have pledged to work on the team with our President, Republicans in the House and with my colleagues in the Senate toward completing the Republican agenda. At the same time, I know that you have been contacted by others who may be candidates to succeed President Reagan. I, too, have been traveling throughout the country to determine whether I should seek our Party's nomination for the Presidency, for I believe that it is imperative that Republicans retain control of the White House following Ronald Reagan's second term. In addition, 1988 and the next few elections will give Republicans the chance to win back the majority of seats in the Senate and, I believe, finally once again in the U.S. House of Representatives. This effort will take strong leadership, rugged determination and the ability to unify the American people. For this reason, I am inviting you and a few of your colleagues to one in a series of meetings for an exchange of ideas and strategy for the Republican Party now and in the future. While I am, of course, interested in your support for my candidacy should I decide to enter the race, your participation will in no manner be any indication of a decision on your part with regard to the 1988 Presidential campaign. Rather, I am most interested in hearing your thoughts about the Republican agenda for the 100th Congress, and avenues available to us to ensure that Republicans retain control of the Administration in the next term. The meeting is scheduled from 8:45 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 4 in Room S-230 in the Capitol. I am most hopeful that your schedule will allow attendance. Sincerely, (Bob Dole's signature) BOB DOLE Republican Leader Not prepared or mailed by Taxpayers' expense. Paid for by DOLE FOR SENATE COMMITTEE, 919 Prince Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314.
