B. Robins Western Area Development Manager CENEX, Distribution Center Singing 1:45 Address: Hon. Bob Dole U. S. Senator from Kansas Escorts: Dale Lyon Neil Oxton Harold Wright Lowell Gose Introduction of Senator Dole: Our featured speaker this afternoon is a fellow Kansan and, if you know us, it's easy for a Kansas to brag on another fellow Kansan. When Bob Dole began his distinguished career in public service back in 1951, it was as a Kansas state legislator. Since that time he has gradually broadened his constituency. In 1960, he was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives from the Sixth District, which included 58 counties, almost half of -- more SUNDAY AFTERNOON (Continued) (Bob Dole, continued) the state. In 1968, he broadened his constituency to the whole state of Kansas in being elected to the United States Senate. In 1976, he narrowly missed extending his constituency to the entire United States but, in making the race as the Republican Vice Presidential nominee, he has now emerged as a national leader of his party, and certainly one of its most knowledgeable rural spokesmen. When Congressman Dole came to the House in 1961, he immediately chose to serve on the House Agriculture Committee and he made the same kind of choice when he came to the Senate in 1969. He is now the ranking Republican member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. He also serves on the Senate Committee on Finance and the Senate Budget Committee. Besides his involvement in the field of agricultural price and income legislation, Senator Dole has taken a particular interest in the food stamp and nutrition programs, in rural development, and in the rural telephone bank program, and in the Trade Reform Act of 1974. He has been particularly helpful to us in his opposition to export controls on farm products. -- more SUNDAY AFTERNOON (Continued) (Bob Dole, continued) Farmers of the nation face some difficult challenges in the months and years ahead and we are pleased that this convention can hear the views of a distinguished American and a good friend, Senator Bob Dole...
